Saints sign McCarthy-Scarsbrook
9:40am Friday 3rd September 2010
SAINTS are delighted to confirm the signing of current England prop forward Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook on a four-year contract from 2011.
The 24-year-old joins international teammate Michael Shenton and Manly Sea Eagles forward Josh Perry in signing the Club for Super League XVI.
McCarthy-Scarsbrook made his first team debut for Harlequins in 2005 and has made close to 100 appearances for the club to date.
Equally adept at leading from the front row and as an impact forward, he has made more than 2100 metres for the Quins this year and has a great off-load.
He made his international debut for England against Wales in 2008.
“We are delighted to have secured Louie’s services for the next four years,” Saints Chief Executive Tony Colquitt said. “Understandably, there were a number of clubs chasing a player of Louie’s calibre and we’re pleased he decided to join the Saints.
“His signing bolsters our pack and gives it some real go-forward next season. At the age of 24, he will continue to develop and we’re looking forward to him joining up with the rest of the squad in November as we prepare for the 2011 season.”
Louie added: “I am delighted to have signed for the Saints for next season. The club is entering an exciting time in its history and to be a part of that was a great pull. Not only will it have a new stadium in 2012 but the quality of the players already in the squad like James Graham and James Roby and the likes of Michael Shenton and Josh Perry means they will be challenging on all fronts.
“I am looking forward to linking up with my new teammates and continuing to learn under Royce Simmons.
“I would like to thank Quins for giving me the chance to play rugby league and I have enjoyed my time there. The fans and players have been excellent with me and I wish them all well in the future.”
