E-fit released in hunt for Rainhill knife thug
12:08pm Sunday 5th February 2012

DETECTIVES have released an e-fit of a robber who tricked his way into a property company’s offices before threatening the owner with a 10-inch knife.
The thug confronted the 62-year-old owner of the company after conning his way into Rainhill Properties’ premises on Victoria Street, Rainhill by buzzing the intercom and claiming he had arrived to pay rent.
He pointed the blade at the victim and demanded cash and his silver Sony laptop.
The robber then fled into the street, where he accidentally dropped some of the money in front of surprised onlookers.
Detective Constable Paul Foster from St Helens CID, said: "Once inside, he waited for the company owner to step out of his upstairs office before threatening him with a knife and ordering him back inside.
“He then stole several hundred pounds in cash and the victim's laptop.
"Thankfully the victim was not hurt but he was very shaken and upset and we are asking for the public's help in catching the person responsible.
"The incident happened close to a busy pub, the Victoria, and the offender may have been seen by several passers-by dropping some of the stolen notes as he fled.
"I would urge anyone who either witnessed this happen, or recognises the man in this e-fit to please contact the police."
The offender is described as a white, aged in his early 20s, about 5ft 3ins tall and of medium build. He was clean shaven, had a round face and wore a grey hooded top.
Police hope releasing the image will give them a breakthrough in the case after two months, with the crime having happened at about 5pm on Wednesday, December 7.
Anyone with information asked to call DC Foster at St Helens CID on 0151 777 6812 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
